JACK SAVITSKY: PENNSYLVANIA PICASSO

Jack Savitsky was born amidst the bleak reality of Pennsylvania’s coal country in 1910 to a direly poor family. After dropping out of middle school, he toiled in the mines himself for four long decades before the black lung finally forced his retirement - at which point he turned to the pen and slowly developed into one of America’s most distinctive primitive artists.
