We came across these early catalog pages from the American Wholesale Corporation, advertising Gibraltar work wear. American Wholesale operated out of Baltimore, MD and was founded by Lithuanian immigrant Jacob Epstein in 1881. Until 1919 they were known as the “Baltimore Bargain House. Wholesalers of general merchandise – manufacturers of clothing, shirts, overalls, cloaks and suits.” They billed themselves as one of the fourth largest wholesale houses in the country and supported a work force of over 1600 employees.
These pages feature some great early catalog graphics and offer a good look at early work wear design. Check out the “Brownie apron overalls with the high railroad back” at their great price of $7.87 1/2
